1.7 Million Candidates Will Sit for UTME On Saturday - Jamb Registrar

                                     
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, has said that a total of 1,735,720 will write the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Ojerinde, stated this yesterday in Abuja during a press conference.

The candidates will have the option to take Dual Based Test (DBT) and Paper Pencil Test (PPT) in this year's examination, as 1,629,102 candidates applied for the PPT, 15,008 applied for the DBT and 91,610 applied for the Computer Based Test (CBT), bringing the total to 1,735,720 candidates.

He revealed that 231,789 more applicants, representing 13.35 per cent, registered for this year as against 1,503,931 that sat for it in the previous year.

He disclosed that following the determination of the board to curb the incidence of exam malpractices, the board will continue to sustain the use of biometric finger-print to check impersonation, lateness, and improper identification of candidates before admitting them for examinations.

A total of 145 visually impaired candidates registered for the exams while 196 inmates registered from Kaduna and Lagos prisons.

The PPT and the DBT which is scheduled to hold on the 27th of April while the CBT which is to commence on the 18th of May and to end on the 1st of June will take place in six foreign centres namely: Accra in Ghana, Buea in Cameroun,Cotonou in Republic of Benin, London in United Kingdom, Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Johanesburg in South Africa.

The board will engage the services of independent examination watch groups which will comprise of eminent personalities, including vice chancellors, rectors, provosts, officials of the federal and state ministries of education,immediate past directors of the board, stakeholders as well as other observers.
