Vladimir Putin meet with President of South Africa Jacob Zuma

Today President Putin will hold talks with President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, who is in Russia at the President’s invitation on a working visit. The two leaders will continue the dialogue they began at their meetings in Durban earlier this March.

Over the past few years, bilateral political dialogue between Russia and South Africa has been evolving very rapidly.

Today's meeting will be the third meeting between the two leaders in less than a year, and the third visit of Jacob Zuma to Russia.
During the talks, the presidents aim to discuss the future prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries and expansion of trade relations. South Africa is one of the most important economic partners of Russia in Africa. Only in the FY 2012, bilateral trade between the two states increased by a record 66.3 percent and reached nearly one billion US dollars.

The presidents will also discuss cooperation in nuclear energy. South Africa plans to build several power plants by 2030 and Russia is ready to assist with the extraction of raw materials, design and manufacture of the equipment.
The leads will also exchange their views on most prominent political issues.

The working visit is guided by all relevant legal instruments and mechanisms including the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between South Africa and Russia signed in March 2013.
