Boko Haram frees three missionaries

Two priests and a nun held captive by Islamic militants who are behind the mass abduction of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were freed yesterday after almost two months in captivity.

Gianantonio Allegri and Giampaolo Marta, missionaries from northern Italy, and Gilberte Bussier, from Canada, were kidnapped in Cameroon, close to the border with Nigeria, on April 4. Officials blamed the Islamist group Boko Haram, which operates in Cameroon and Nigeria.
A spokesman for the presidency in Cameroon said the three had handed over to authorities on Saturday night.
