Lambeth elects Nigerian-born councillors as Mayor and Deputy Mayor

The Investiture of London's Lambeth Councillor - Adedamola Aminu, as Mayor of the borough took place on Wednesday in the Council Chambers.

Nigerian-born Councillor Aminu was the Deputy Mayor of the borough and former Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People.

Working alongside Aminu, will be another Nigerian-born Councillor - Donatus Anyawu who is the Deputy Mayor. He is billed to be the Mayor next year following the tradition where the elected Deputy Mayor automatically becomes Mayor in the subsequent civic year.
Councillor Aminu paid tribute to his predecessor Councillor Mark Bennett who died from a suspected heart attack earlier this year.

He promised to serve diligently with his colleagues to make Lambeth Council better.
