Luis Suarez set for hero's welcome as fans gather at airport to show support

Uruguayan Striker Luis Suarez is set to receive a hero's welcome from his country fans after his latest ban.

The Liverpool striker was banned from all football activity for four months on Thursday, alongside a nine-game suspension from international football, after biting Giorgio Chiellini.

Unsurprisingly, most have condemned Suarez for his actions and claim FIFA's punishment isn't strict enough for a repeat offender.

Hundreds of supporters flocked to the country's Montevideo airport last night to show their allegiance to the striker, who was due to arrive after leaving the team's hotel in Brazil.

They were seen waving the national flag and carrying banners criticising FIFA for the decision - which the Uruguayan FA are expected to appeal.

President Jose Mujica even appeared at one stage, although Suarez' flight was delayed meaning fans had to move to an air force base to await his arrival.
