Alison-Madueke Emerges President of Gas Exporting Countries

Nigeria Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has been elected the President of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Just like OPEC, Mrs Alison-Madueke is the first female President of the forum.

A statement by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ohi Alegbe in Abuja Tuesday said the appointment was announced Tuesday in Doha, Qatar, at the ongoing 16th Ministerial Conference of the GECF.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke could not attend the meeting because of her involvement in the on-going negotiations to end the oil workers' strike was represented at the meeting by the Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar, His Excellency Shuaibu Ahmed.

The Forum is made up of 12 of the world's leading producers of natural gas. It controls over 70% of global natural gas reserves, 85% of global liquefied natural gas production, and 38% of global pipeline trade of the product.
