Nollywood Actor Charles Okocha Shot by Policeman

Nigerian actor Charles Okocha has been hit by a stray bullet fired by a policeman. Reports from both music act, Kelly Handsome and Cossy Orjiakor, confirmed the incident, it happened at an event yesterday, and Charles has been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

They are now asking people to please pray for him. This is beyond sad, especially if he was really hit by a Police bullet. May God keep him alive.

Osun State Minority Leader (Oladejo Makinde) is dead

Minority leader of the Osun State House of Assembly (Mr. Oladejo Makinde) has been confirmed dead.
His death was confirmed by Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye , Chairman of the Osun Assembly Committee on Information and Strategy. Oyintiloye claimed that although Makinde had been battling with the illness for some time, he was responding to treatment. The legislator said that the minority leader's death came as a shock to all his colleagues.

His death was also confirmed by Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa , the PDP chairman of Osun State, saying that Makinde's death was caused by some health complications.
Mr Oladejo Makinde's corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital.

Obasanjo Urges Rich Nigerians on Community Contributions

Nigerian former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, while delivering his goodwill message at the 2015 edition of the Ibogun-Olaogun Day held on Saturday at Ibogun- Olaogun Village, in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State urged well-meaning Nigerians to give back to the communities where they hail from, in order to stem the tide of rural-urban migration and unemployment among youths because this would engender rural development in the country.

Actor Kunle Afolayan Endorsed by Automobile Company

Nollywood multi award winning actor and movie director, Kunle Afolayan has added a new endorsement deal to his impressive accolades as he landed his second deal this year as he was unveiled the new ambassador for Peugeot during the unveiling ceremony of the new Peugeot 508 at the NAF Conference Center and Suites, Ahmadu Bello Way.

The Yoruba actor having earlier became the first Nigerian ambassador for French airline 'Air France' in the year, broke the news to his fans on his Instagram page.

The Peugeot 508 car, which was fully assembled in Nigeria, will also be featured as one of the vehicles in Kunle Afolayan’s upcoming film, The C.E.O which he just finished filming worldwide in October.
Kunle was also given a key to his own Peugeot 508 by the MD of Pan Nigeria, Mr Ibrahim Boyi.

Reports: Jose Mourinho To Replace Van Gaal At Man-U

Reports comming in from Europe states that former Chelsea Manager JOSE MOURINHO has agreed a five-year deal to replace Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss.

Mourinho was sacked as Chelsea boss last Thursday after the champions lost nine of their opening 16 Premier League games and Mourinho had admitted the top four was out of reach.

Spanish website Fichajes claim Mourinho has already agreed to take the reins at Manchester United after they pull the trigger on Van Gaal.
Express Sport understands Van Gaal’s future is being considered and the Dutchman could even be facing the sack if United lose their next match.
They take on Stoke – and former striker Mark Hughes – on Boxing Day before Chelsea on December 28.

Photo: Vehicle burst into flame along Ijebu-Ode

This morning at Ijebu-ode of Ogun State, a vehicle caught fire after a gas cylinder in the booth exploded. The incident occured at Ajebandele, along Ijebu-Ode, according to FRSC Nigeria. The vehicle which was completely burnt has been successfully removed by Special Patrol from RS2.21 Ijebu-Ode Unit Command. There is no mention yet of casualties.

Malaysia yesterday launched it's first Islamic-compliant airline Rayani Air with its maiden flight taking off from the capital to the resort island of Langkawi.

In-flight meals served on board its flights are completely halal, with alcohol consumption strictly prohibited, in compliance with Shariah laws.
The dress code is also reflective of Shariah guidelines, as Muslim flight crew must wear the hijab while non-Muslim crew have to be decently dressed. There will also be prayer recitals on the plane before take-off.

NNPC Staffs to miss Christmas Celebration

The minister for petroleum resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has said that NNPC staff should be prepared to miss their Christmas celebrations if need be. This is coming on the heels of the deployment of over 500 truckloads of fuel nationwide to help reduce the ongoing fuel scarcity and ease Yuletide celebration.
According to Punch Newspapers, Kachikwu said
“This calls for effective monitoring of the supply system, especially at the end points, to ascertain that what is trucked out from the depots is delivered at the designated fuel stations and dispensed to the public in the most efficient manner. We need you to be out there to help achieve this; we can’t be at ease while Nigerians are going through so much pain to get fuel.”

NERC releases new electriity tariff; Pay per Electricity Consumed

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has removed fixed electricity charges that has constantly caused discrepancies in the billing system of meters in most Nigerian homes.  Henceforth,Nigerians will now pay for only the power they consume as the new electricity tariff released by the recent development is contained in a statement released by Sam Amadi, chairman of NERC today December 21st.

“Although, the new tariff regimes comes with an increase in energy charges, all electricity consumers (residential as well as commercial) will no longer pay fixed charges, so their total bills will depend on the electricity they actually consume and may be reduced when they conserve electricity. This is in line with NERC’s mandate to be fair in all its regulatory interventions.

Hospitality industry to survive 2016 recession, 6.6 percent growth expected

With the Central Bank of Nigeria announcing a possible recession hitting the economy by 2016, analysts have forecasted higher cash receipts for the hospitality sector.

According to PriceWaterHouseCoopers, the global accounting firm, although the domestic market took a knock in the first half of the year, an increase in hotel bookings is projected to occur at a 6.6% compound annual rate to 2.2 million by 2019.

While the wider economy takes a beating, stakeholders are optimistic that with in­frastructure investments in technology taking center stage, the ease of trade will turn the fate of the industry from peripheral to mainstream in the near future. Continue...

“It was reported that the passengers held the airline crew to ransom and insisted that they must disembark from the cabin when they were informed that the airport could not provide a staircase for them to disembark from the cabin,” it said. “This led the crew and the airport to arrange for a ladder to disembark the passengers from the cabin.”

Groom whose bride died on their wedding night, dies

The husband of the woman killed in a crash on their wedding day died on Saturday, December 19, three years after the tragic incident. Louwrens Geldenhuys, 34, reportedly died of a heart attack as the trial of the man allegedly responsible for the death of his wife is drawing to a close.

In December 2, 2012, a Couple (Chantal and Geldenhuys) exchanged vows in a church north of Pretoria, the couple was involved in a grisly crash when an alleged intoxicated soldier drove into them.
According to Pretoria Rekord North News, Chantal was killed on impact and Geldenhuys was seriously injured. Details of her tragic death in a car crash of a bride on her way to the wedding-night reception played out in court about two weeks ago.
Sergeant-Major Abram Themba has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and reckless or negligent driving in the Pretoria North Regional Court. Themba allegedly skipped a red traffic light shortly after midnight on the corner of Dr Van der Merwe and Sefako Makgatho drives.

Blessing Okagbare wins Guineas World Record Price

Nigerian sprinter and long jumper Blessing Okagbare over the weekend beat the World's fastest man Usain Bolt to win the Guinness World Book of Records prize for most IAAF Diamond League appearances in 2015.

Guinness Book of records said,
“Multi-discipline athlete, Blessing Okagbare from Nigeria participated at 38 Diamond league events between July 3, 2010 and September 5, 2014.
Okagbare’s specialties are the 100m and 200m sprints and long jump,” Jamaica's Usain Bolt has won the IAAF World Athlete of the year in 2008,2009,2011,2012 and 2013 but amazingly hasn't appeared in IAAF competitions more than Blessing Okagbere.

The IAAF Diamond League is an annual series of track and field meetings held from 2010 till date.

Sport: FIFA bans Blatter, Platini for eight years

A FIFA court on Monday banned Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini for eight years after finding them guilty of abusing their positions over a $2 million payment that was made to the suspended head of European football.
Both were “immediately” banned from all football activity. Blatter, FIFA’s president since 1998, was fined 50,000 Swiss francs ($50,000). Platini was fined 80,000 Swiss francs.

A statement by the court said both showed “abusive execution” of their powers. In the case of Platini, the court said he “failed to act with complete credibility and integrity, showing unawareness of the importance of his duties.”

Dickson Wants To Be Declared Election Winner

Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, on Saturday, clarified that the statistics was not peculiar to Bayelsa State after putting the average statistics of the voters that took part in the December 5, 2015 governorship election at 40 per cent, contrary to the claim of the opposition candidate.

Dickson said having won six out of the seven local government areas declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission with a wide margin, he should be declared the winner of the election and not the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Chief Timpre Sylva. Continue...

According to PunchNG, Giving a breakdown of the statistical voting pattern in the last election, Dickson said Sagbama Local Government Area had a total number of 83,000 registered voters and the number of Permanent Voter Cards collected was 73,000, while 35,000 voters were accredited, same for Ogbia and Ekeremor local government areas.
According to him, the number of registered voters in Brass LGA, Sylva’s council, stood at 55,000, while the votes cast was 29, 000 which is about the highest.

“I am hoping that the percentage of the voters’ turnout will be higher than the 40 per cent that we have already seen as the average.”

Photos: Bomb found inside a Catholic Church in Kenya

A mass service at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Kirinyaga, Kenya, was cut short after an explosive was found on one of the pews.

A worshipper, Mr Richard Kanyuiro, said he and his two friends saw the explosive device as they were giving their offerings and thought it was a toy.
However, after examining the object closely, one of them who is an Administration Police officer identified it as a bomb and alerted the congregation. The bomb was reported disarmed by experts. Checkout below the disarmed bomb and other photos at the event...

Nigeria Cuts Fuel Price From N97 To N87 per Litre

Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy and largest crude producer, on Sunday, announced a reduction in the pump price of premium motor spirit (petrol) from N97 to N87 ($0.5) per litre. The reduction came as a result of the continued slump in global oil prices.

The Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, who is also the the chairperson of OPEC, made the announcement on the country’s network station, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

“I will like to announce the reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit by N10. Therefore, the reduction would be from N97 per litre to N87 per litre and this would be effective from midnight Sunday, January 18, 2015. In line with this I have directed the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and the Directorate of Petroleum Resources to ensure that there is strict adherence of this regime as it takes effect from midnight Sunday, January 18. I do hope that the entire country will benefit immensely from this reduction of the pump price,” Allison-Madueke said.

I Won't Play a Gay Role - Kevin Hart

American Actor, Kevin Hart says he could not play a gay role in a movie because he would worry too much about what others might think.

Kevin who was on The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 Friday when Charlamagne asked him if there was ever a role he turned down. Kevin revealed he turned down the role of Alpa Chino in "Tropic Thunder" because the gay dialogue was "flagrant (Shocking because it is done in a very obvious way and shows no respect for people, laws e.t.c)". He then went on to explain he could not play a gay role, at least now, because he'd be too distracted by others who might judge him and that would get in the way of his performance.

Nigerian Comedian, Basket Mouth has stated why he cannot cancel his February 14 show which is billed to hold in London the same day Nigeria’s presidential elections will hold, despite people clamouring that the comedian must cancel the show and perform his civic duties by voting. “This has been an annual show in the last six years. It is a franchise and it holds every Valentine’s Day in the UK regardless of the day it falls on. It has been happening for the past six years and the venue has been booked long ago. The tickets have been on sale long before it was announced that elections would hold on that day.

“Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it because everything is ready and I have to go on with my show. The people talking about it apparently do not know that it is a franchise that has been on for about six years. I cannot cancel the show because of elections,” he said.

Mnet(West) Regional Director Describes Nollywood as “Cradle of the African Film Industry.”

The regional Director of Mnet West Africa, Mrs. Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu has described the Nigeria movie industry, also known as Nollywood as the cradle of the African film industry.

Mba-Uzoukwu while speaking to selected journalists at a media briefing on the preparations of the continental broadcast outfit’s for the 3rd edition of the annual Africa Movie Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA 2015) responded to a question on whether the award ceremony will be moved to another country in the nearest future since it has always been held in Lagos, Nigeria, Mba-Uzoukwu said... "the venue of the award ceremony will remain in Lagos, because Nollywood remains the “cradle of the African film industry.”

The event which is set to hold on the 6th and 7th of March 2015 will be held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
She also disclosed that voting is going on and the response and participation of the public has been very encouraging. She assured the public of the credibility of the voting process saying the votes are been verified by a world class auditing firm.

A Saudi Arabian woman (Laila Bint Abdul Muttalib Basim) was publicly beheaded in Mecca earlier this week, after she was dragged through the street and held down by four police officers.

She was executed by sword on Monday in Islam's holiest city after being convicted of the sexual abuse and murder of her seven-year-old step- daughter, The Independent reported on Friday.
A video showed how it took three blows to complete the execution, while the woman screamed “I did not kill. I did not kill,”.
The video which appeared on YouTube, was removed as a violation of the site's policy on "shocking and disgusting content."

In a statement released on their official website, the Saudi Ministry of Interior said that the death penalty in the Burmese woman's case was warranted due to the "enormity of the crime," and was carried out to "restore security" and "realize justice," Vice reported.
