South Sudanese Model Mary Agory Opened Up About Her Career + Advices Upcomming Models

08:34 0 Comments
In a recent interview with Zen Magazine Africa, the stunning South Sudanese model talks about her lifetime in the industry when she was told her facial scars will hinder her modelling career. Speaking to Dami Alao, the New York based model opened up about her career and why young kids in school don’t need to rush to become a model.

She was asked on what advice would she give to aspiring young models. Her reply Below...
Mari: If you are in school, don’t rush to become a model. Finish your schooling. I was a latecomer into the industry because I wanted to finish school first and wouldn’t have it any other way. I was told I was too old at age 20 to start modelling then. I was told my scar is a hinderer but that didn’t stop me from gaining the little bit of success I have had in the industry. Once in the industry, never ever take anything personally. The minute you start doing that you can bet you will start to go crazy and lose your sanity. Modelling is a business, everyone else sees it as such, and so should models. You are a walking business and you must manage your image, protect and polish your character and image accordingly. Take care of yourself mentally (never stop learning), emotionally (have support around you, don’t lose touch with yourself), intellectually (engage and surround yourself with people who are striving for great things other than just modelling), and spiritually (seek ways to stay grounded and staying true to yourself).

Meant No Disrespect to other fashionable Africans, especially those who indeed spend much just for their good looking and wears. Picks today only cut across Three (3) African parts which include the West, South and East.

Believe it or not, all the picks are judged based on their appearance and how creative they all put on their wears not by how expensive their luxury labels are. Arguably, these Five(5) are the best when it comes to fashion.

NB: This is not a rating but pick base on my personal interest and evaluation. Enjoy!

1. Theo Kgosinkwe (South Africa)
The SouthAfrican Song Composer, who is one of the member of popular group Mafikizolo, is quite the fashion aficionado. He manages to be classic, tailored, with a side of fun and whimsy. This you can see with every different outfit that he has on. Theo is quite the artist and it transcends from music all the way to his clothing.  I am particularly impressed with the Masai infused ornaments that he decides to add to his outfits. It takes and gives the outfit life and direction.

Like his work, this man’s wardrobe is mostly Full of luxury labels Suits and I'm not complaining.

3. Jamal Gaddafi (Kenya)

The Number 1 sign It’s Time To Dump Her

05:49 0 Comments
You can probably think of at least one ex who was part of your life for a little too long. You’re not alone: A new study from Portugal suggests that there’s a reason we get trapped in bad relationships.

You might remember the “sunk cost fallacy” from Economics 101. The theory goes that the more time and money you sink into something, the harder it is to walk away. You think you’re making a rational decision, but you’re actually just too emotionally invested to see how cutting your losses could lead to better things later on.

This plays out in your love life, too, the researchers say. When people had already invested lots of time, money, and effort into a relationship, they were more likely to stick with it even when they weren’t happy.

In other words, couples were more likely to keep on trudging through the misery if they’d been together for several years, had kids, or bought a house together compared to similarly unhappy couples with shorter timelines, no kids, or fewer mutual expenses.

The researchers also concluded that it’s often men and not women who are likely to stay in a bad relationship for these reasons.

Megan Close, LMFT, a marriage and family counselor based in New York City, sees this all the time in couples counseling. Tallying time and credit card charges instead of your emotional needs “often leads to affairs, overworking, and increased separate travel,” she said.

It’s not that we’re masochists—we’re pack animals. “We’re all wired to be together,” Close says. It’s tough to break a long-standing bond. You’ve gotten used to how your partner smells and feels, and those connections are powerful.

If you’re not sure whether to call it quits, consider whether your efforts to improve the relationship are doing any good. If you and your partner have made compromises, and the relationship still isn’t working, it may be time to rip the Band-Aid off.

Having a positive support system will help. Think about all the aspects of your life. Is your relationship the only outlier in terms of how happy you feel? “The more that you have great things going on at work, and friends, it makes it a lot easier to say ‘this doesn’t really fit in,’” Close says.

It’s not easy. “Staying together is the default,” Close says. Change is hard and messy and sad.

But knowing that and being able to look at your relationship honestly is the first step. Of course, breakups and divorce are terrible, but if you find that your main reasons sticking around are quantifiable things like the time you’ve spent together and the vacations you’ve already booked? It’s time to get out.

Boko Haram Militants Teaches Children As Young As 13 How To Rape Their Hostages

04:21 0 Comments

The militants tell their young recruits they will 'have fun' sexually assaulting their captives, according to a boy soldier who fled from the Nigerian jihadists.

The group, who have pledged allegiance to ISIS, are reportedly increasingly turning to children to boost their ranks having sustained bad losses in the last year in battles against the Nigerian military.

One boy, abducted by Boko Haram in Baga, Nigeria has described how senior fighters spent two days instructing youngsters how to carry out rapes - repeatedly attacking women and young girls they were holding captive.

According to Philip Obaji Jr, A writer of Daily Beast, the 15-year-old, named only as Ahmed, revealed how boys were taught to subdue their victims and told not to allow women to 'overpower' them.

Ahmed said: 'The girls will scream and cry for help, but [the militants] didn’t care. Sometimes they’ll be slapped and threatened with guns if they didn't cooperate.'

He added that young fighters were told they would 'have fun' on completion of a successful mission.
A girl who escaped Boko Haram also told the Daily Beast how she had been raped by 'little boys' who were so little she could normally fend them off 'very easily'.

One 'looked like a 13-year-old having sex for the first time' - but succeeded because he had a gun.

The shocking details emerged as it was claimed Boko Haram fighters fleeing an attack on their base last week may have used some of the girls kidnapped in 2014 from northeast Nigeria's Chibok as human shields to prevent being fired upon by fighter jets.

Major General Lucky Irabor, theatre commander of Nigeria's military campaign against the group, showed a news conference aerial footage he said was filmed during the operation in the Sambisa forest that showed Boko Haram fighters moving with Children and Women.

"The haggard fighters were just using them as a shield," Irabor told reporters in the northeastern city of Maiduguri. "That is why we did not engage them from the air."

African-American Billionaire Offers Scholarship To Chibok Girls

04:58 0 Comments

Billionaire, Mr Robert Smith, has volunteered to sponsor the education of 24 girls from Chibok Community, including the 21 recently rescued Chibok schoolgirls.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Nigerian President, Malam Garba Shehu made this known to State House correspondents in Abuja Capital of Nigeria on Tuesday.

He said beneficiaries of the scheme included the first set of escapees from Boko Haram insurgents.

According to him, the girls will be admitted through negotiation at the American University of Nigeria, Yola.

“Smith has offered to pay for the education of the 21 released through negotiations and is offering to take responsibility for all the others who will hopefully be eventually set free.

“The Murtala Mohammed Foundation in the country is equally interested,’’ he added.

On the welfare of the recently-released 21 Chibok Girls, Garba said “they are being treated as adoptees of the Federal Government but there is a lot of local and international interest in the future plans of the girls.’’

However, some of the parents of the 21 Chibok Girls complained that they did not have enough room for interactions with their daughters brought home for Christmas by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Reacting, Shehu admitted that there were some hitches arising from a lack of understanding of the objective of the trip on the part of some security operatives.

“If the situation persists, please let us know so that the higher authorities will make a further intercession,” he said.

He, however, stated that following the receipt of this complaint, a directive had been given from the headquarters for the access by the parents to be eased.
